The Power of Surrender

As we come to the close of yet another year, I like to use this tiny bit of remaining time to sit back and focus on the lessons of the past twelve months.I do this every year almost like some sort of ancient ritual. I light some candles, take out my fancy leather bound journal, use my favorite pen with red ink~ the one that writes like a dream~ and I begin to list all of things that stand out in my mind as important lessons. After the list seems complete, I start to scan the pages for common themes. This year definitely had a theme! It was personally a bit of a tough year filled with legal ex husband stuff, arguing, sleepless nights, fighting the good fight, bad decisions, defending my position, being on the verge of giving up even though I knew I was right, questioning my sanity, questioning my past choices, and finally…SURRENDER.

Getting there was the hard part but being there was surprisingly calm and peaceful and easy. I had tried to swim upstream for entirely too long and it occurred to me one day out of the blue, that surrendering to the situation isn't giving up, on the contrary, surrendering is power. It’s basically saying to yourself, the other person involved, your dog, and the Universe that you are no longer tied to any particular outcome. You are shouting at the top of your adorable lungs~ or maybe just whispering in a bubble bath, that you are letting go of your version of how this all plays out. Do you feel the power in that? The power to just be and to trust that everything will happen when and how it is supposed to, all with no interference and futile illusions of control from you. Wow! Thats huge! Surrender is a decision to let go, knowing you have done all that you have to do and thats ok. There is real power in taking ownership of the fact that you are and will continue to be just fine. That is so empowering!

Not a year of super smooth sailing exactly, but the lessons were lovely and much needed. This is a theme that I will absolutely carry forward with gratitude. There is real beauty and grace to be found in release and the lesson of surrender.

Lots of Bright Blessings~

Shannon xoxo
